The GFF We Want

Overview

The GFF We Want (GFFWW), hosted by WACI Health, is a regional civil society campaign to leverage the knowledge and capacity of CSO coalitions engaged with the Global Financing Facility (GFF). The campaign seeks to capture lessons learned, identify best practices, and enhance cross-learning among civil society organisations and maternal health advocates. Through strategic engagement in key advocacy moments, including the GFF Resource Mobilization Campaign, the GFFWW aims to drive country-level efforts and global commitments towards resource mobilization, ultimately ensuring the GFF’s success.

When the GFF was launched at the Financing for Development Conference in Addis Ababa in July 2015, it promised to make progress towards universal health coverage by putting women, children and adolescents first. Its overall goal is to contribute to ending preventable maternal, newborn, child and adolescent deaths by 2030 and improving the health and quality of life of women, adolescents and children in 50 priority countries. In order to deliver on that promise and reach the level of ambition set for the GFF replenishment, a concerted and amplified advocacy effort from civil society across countries at all stages of the GFF lifecycle is needed to move closer to securing commitments to the replenishment and maintaining interest and engagement in funding country investment cases. In November 2018, the GFF Secretariat held a replenishment conference, co-hosted by the Governments of Norway and Burkina Faso, the World Bank Group, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the scaling up of the GFF in more countries.

The GFFWW campaign began with a survey of four broadly framed questions to gather insights on how different stakeholder understand the GFF, what they see as its value add and its biggest potential for impact as well as their recommendations for the GFF’s replenishment and future. Findings were shared at a regional consultation and globally around the replenishment moment. The GFFWW campaign aims to elevate the voice of GFF stakeholders and lessons learned by GFF-implementing countries.
