Africa Unite Solidarity Campaign
The Africa Unite Solidarity Campaign is a Pan-African human rights and health equity initiative coordinated by WACI Health. The campaign unites civil society organisations, community advocates, key population networks, religious leaders, and legal defenders across East, West, Central, and Southern Africa to defend human rights, challenge anti-rights backlash, and ensure that health services remain accessible to everyone, regardless of their identity or legal status.
The campaign was launched in response to a harsh wave of discriminatory legislation, such as Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Act in 2023, and shrinking civic space across several African nations. Punitive laws, stigma, and state-sanctioned violence create severe barriers to healthcare, driving marginalised communities away from life-saving HIV, TB, and primary care services and threatening decades of public health progress. The Africa Unite Solidarity Campaign centers on the principle that effective health responses must protect the rights of all communities, providing a safe platform, technical backing, and a collective voice to challenge injustice and demand the universal right to health.

Objectives
What We Do
WACI Health convenes and coordinates the Africa Unite Solidarity Campaign, facilitating strategy calls that bring together advocates across the continent to share real-time intelligence, assess risks, and align advocacy responses. We document human rights violations impacting healthcare access, support legal petitions against discriminatory laws, and coordinate joint petitions delivered to national judicial bodies, regional economic communities, and diplomatic missions.
Through the campaign, WACI Health builds strategic bridges across movements, collaborating with faith-based networks such as SANARELA in South Africa and legislative bodies like Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) to promote health equity and LGBTQI+ rights. We elevate frontline community experiences onto regional and global stages, organising public demonstrations and rights-focused sessions at high-level forums including the 2023 UN High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage in New York, the 2024 Global Equality Summit in Cape Town, and the International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024) in Munich.
WACI Health also drives public education and media engagement, having hosted dedicated Vuka Afrika broadcasts on International Human Rights Day and leading digital activations during Pride Month and the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
